Question from Ktchen&1963 (02:44, 30 September 2025)

[edit]

I just interested learning in translation (from English to Chinese). Thanks. --Ktchen&1963 (talk) 02:44, 30 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

It is unclear what you are asking. Do you want to translate Wikipedia articles from English to Chinese? -- Whpq (talk) 03:47, 30 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

File:Saverio-portrait.png

[edit]

Hi Whpq. Could you take a look at File:Saverio-portrait.png? There's no EXIF data and no real source provided to verify the claim of "own work", but I'm not finding any indications of the file being used anywhere online. It's a posed photo so it could be a professionally taken shot, I guess, but it could just as easily been taken by someone the subject knows. Do you think this is OK as is? -- Marchjuly (talk) 06:57, 30 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

It looks very much like a studio posed portrait. I would ask the uploader if they are the photographer. -- Whpq (talk) 13:47, 30 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for taking a look. The same user subsequently uploaded File:Real-Saverio-portrait.png, which has different feel to it, but also has no EXIF data or real source information. In addition, the "author photograph" caption provided for the photo in Saverio Monachino could be a form of attribution meaning the photo came from the subject themselves. Anyway, I've asked the uploader about this on their user talk and hopefully they'll clarify things. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:39, 1 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Hamoudd1740 (18:56, 6 October 2025)

[edit]

Good evening,

If I may, how am I to go about adding an "Influenced by" section? --Hamoudd1740 (talk) 18:56, 6 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Based on your edits so far, I'm assuming you want to add to the Marquis de Sade article. In order to add such a section, the material in the section would need to be backed up with reliable sources. It may be a good idea to initiate a discussion on the article talk page to get input from other editors before adding such a section. -- Whpq (talk) 19:03, 6 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Stein.stromme.eide (06:58, 8 October 2025)

[edit]

Hi! I want to create a draft and in the future an article about the new Volt Europa chapter in Norway both in English and Norwegian. Any advice? --Stein.stromme.eide (talk) 06:58, 8 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I cannot give you any advice on creating an article in the Norwegian language version of Wikipedia; you will need to ask at the Norwegian Wikipedia for assistance there. For the English language Wikipedia, your first article provides information on how to create an article. As you have declared a conflict of interest, you would need to create a draft for review through the articles for creation process. In order to be accepted, the article should meet Wikipedia's inclusion guidelines, usually referred to as notability. This is established with references that show there is significant coverage in independent reliable sources. -- Whpq (talk) 14:11, 8 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Arbitration

  • After a motion, arbitration enforcement page protections no longer need to be logged in the AELOG. A bot now automatically posts protections at WP:AELOG/P. To facilitate this bot, protection summaries must include a link to the relevant CT page (e.g. [[WP:CT/BLP]]), and you will receive talk page reminders if you forget to specify the contentious topic but otherwise indicate it is an AE action.

File:The Sword and the Sickle.png

[edit]

Hi Whpq. Could you take a look at File:The Sword and the Sickle.png? Do you think the quoted text on the cover is enough to keep this licensed as non-free? It's a bit blurry, but it looks like the quote is attributed to William Blake and comes from the Notebook of William Blake per this. -- Marchjuly (talk) 12:12, 11 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think it needs to be non-free. -- Whpq (talk) 12:16, 11 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for taking a look at this. -- Marchjuly (talk) 10:48, 12 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Aoagus12 (09:00, 12 October 2025)

[edit]

Hi mentor,I want to upload some images,how do I do it --Aoagus12 (talk) 09:00, 12 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

In order to upload images, you will need to be autoconfirmed. Just keep editing and that status will happen. If you plan on uploading images, you must make yourself familiar with Wikipedia's image use policy. In particular, you need to pay attention to copyrights and licensing. Images you upload must be under an acceptably free license. Most images you find on the internet are copyrighted and not compatibly licensed for use on Wikipedia. Freely licensed images are usually more suited for upload to Commons which is a sister project dedicated to hosting encyclopedic media. An exception to the free licensing is non-free content. Any use of such content must meet all of the non-free content criteria. The rules for that are fairly strict. If you find yourself confused about media, copyrights and licensing, you can get help at WP:Media copyright questions. -- Whpq (talk) 17:30, 12 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Second AfD Nomination for an Article which you voted to Keep during its First AfD Nomination

[edit]

Hello,

I'm writing to notify you of the second Articles for Deletion (AfD) nomination for the Trevor Chan article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Trevor_Chan_(2nd_nomination).

You voted to Keep it during its first Articles for Deletion nomination: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Trevor_Chan

I've been one of the editors who updated and expanded the article to its current form. The new nomination uses the same reason (lack of notability) for AfD that you disagreed with in the first nominatio. I'd greatly appreciate it if you could review the discussion and consider voting, which may potentially enable the discussion to be closed with a consensus.

Thank you for your time and support! Fact2Hound (talk) 13:19, 20 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Robin Hoffman27 (21:05, 24 October 2025)

[edit]

Hello. I would like to disclose that I handle marketing communications for the company I just submitted a Wikipedia entry for - Brightline Lighting. How do I do that? --Robin Hoffman27 (talk) 21:05, 24 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure provides information about what you must do. -- Whpq (talk) 21:11, 24 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

Hello. I would like to disclose that I handle communications for the organization I just submitted a Wikipedia entry for - Ani corruption commission of Maldives. should i create a new page for the organization, or this page can be reviewed? AishathSama (talk) 06:03, 27 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I have left a couple of messages on your talk page. The first provides information about copyright. Material contributed to Wikipedia must be under a free license which yours was not, and as such you cannot just submit that again. Although your organisation can release the material under a free license, that does not mean it is acceptable. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and not a web hosting service for mirroring your web site's about page. The second message provides information about how you can provide the disclosure.
As for creating a page for your organisation, you should ensure it meet the inclusion criteria for an article on Wikipedia. You should not create the article directly. Instead, you will need to create a draft and submit it through Articles for creation. -- Whpq (talk) 14:43, 27 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Kadenewald (21:43, 27 October 2025)

[edit]

Hi!

I was reading a page about Herbalife that was redundant and I made the edit. It was reverted shortly after. How can I make edits that stick! --Kadenewald (talk) 21:43, 27 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

You will need to follow the advice already given on you talk page and take your issues with the article to the article talk page. -- Whpq (talk) 21:50, 27 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Kadenewald, it looks like you've tried multiple times to make the same edits after being reverted by different users and not engaging in any sort of discussion on talk pages—it would be a good idea for you to read up on the BOLD, revert, discuss cycle which is an important process for reaching consensus about what should or should not be included in articles. Making your case on the Herbalife Talk Page would be the most appropriate way to proceed. MossOnALogTalk 21:51, 27 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the feedback! Kadenewald (talk) 22:50, 29 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Guide to temporary accounts

[edit]

Hello, Whpq. This message is being sent to remind you of significant upcoming changes regarding logged-out editing.

Starting 4 November, logged-out editors will no longer have their IP address publicly displayed. Instead, they will have a temporary account (TA) associated with their edits. Users with some extended rights like administrators and CheckUsers, as well as users with the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right will still be able to reveal temporary users' IP addresses and all contributions made by temporary accounts from a specific IP address or range.

How do temporary accounts work?

Editing from a temporary account
  • When a logged-out user completes an edit or a logged action for the first time, a cookie will be set in this user's browser and a temporary account tied with this cookie will be automatically created for them. This account's name will follow the pattern: ~2025-12345-67 (a tilde, year of creation, a number split into units of 5).
  • All subsequent actions by the temporary account user will be attributed to this username. The cookie will expire 90 days after its creation. As long as it exists, all edits made from this device will be attributed to this temporary account. It will be the same account even if the IP address changes, unless the user clears their cookies or uses a different device or web browser.
  • A record of the IP address used at the time of each edit will be stored for 90 days after the edit. Users with the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right will be able to see the underlying IP addresses.
  • As a measure against vandalism, there are two limitations on the creation of temporary accounts:
    • There has to be a minimum of 10 minutes between subsequent temporary account creations from the same IP (or /64 range in case of IPv6).
    • There can be a maximum of 6 temporary accounts created from an IP (or /64 range) within a period of 24 hours.

Temporary account IP viewer user right

How to enable IP Reveal

Impact for administrators

  • It will be possible to block many abusers by just blocking their temporary accounts. A blocked person won't be able to create new temporary accounts quickly if the admin selects the autoblock option.
  • It will still be possible to block an IP address or IP range.
  • Temporary accounts will not be retroactively applied to contributions made before the deployment. On Special:Contributions, you will be able to see existing IP user contributions, but not new contributions made by temporary accounts on that IP address. Instead, you should use Special:IPContributions for this (see a video about IPContributions in a gallery below).

Rules about IP information disclosure

  • Publicizing an IP address gained through TAIV access is generally not allowed (e.g. ~2025-12345-67 previously edited as 192.0.2.1 or ~2025-12345-67's IP address is 192.0.2.1).
  • Publicly linking a TA to another TA is allowed if "reasonably believed to be necessary". (e.g. ~2025-12345-67 and ~2025-12345-68 are likely the same person, so I am counting their reverts together toward 3RR, but not Hey ~2025-12345-68, you did some good editing as ~2025-12345-67)
  • See Wikipedia:Temporary account IP viewer § What can and can't be said for more detailed guidelines.

Useful tools for patrollers

  • It is possible to view if a user has opted-in to view temporary account IPs via the User Info card, available in Preferences → Appearance → Advanced options → Tick Enable the user info card
    • This feature also makes it possible for anyone to see the approximate count of temporary accounts active on the same IP address range.
  • Special:IPContributions allows viewing all edits and temporary accounts connected to a specific IP address or IP range.
  • Similarly, Special:GlobalContributions supports global search for a given temporary account's activity.
  • The auto-reveal feature (see video below) allows users with the right permissions to automatically reveal all IP addresses for a limited time window.

[edit]

hello How do I create a citation --User 36929 (talk) 16:51, 3 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Help:Introduction to referencing with VisualEditor provides the basics of creating a citation. If you are using the source editor, then you follow the instructions at Help:Referencing for beginners. Regardless of which method you are using to edit, the citation you add should be to a reliable source. -- Whpq (talk) 19:01, 3 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I need help

[edit]

.. about the article i changed, I actually work at Knowledge University and would like to make a few edits. Sara13kh (talk) 06:11, 4 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Sara13kh, I saw you edits to Knowledge University, they were correctly reverted by Whpq. While you reverted him, I have reverted you also because it (the edit) goes against our guideline for external links. I hope you understand that part.
The other part is that you're KU's employee, which means you must have a conflict of interest (this is particularly evident in you edits already). Our conflict-of-interest guideline (COI) strongly discourages editors who have COI to NOT edit their (in your case) employer's articles directly. They are, by all means, required to follow the steps we outlined here for them (see steps). For a start, and per our outlined steps, you should disclose your COI just the way we have outlined (see how).
If you have further questions, you could reach out here or at the Teahouse where other editors could assist you. Vanderwaalforces (talk) 08:43, 4 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Klooperer (18:31, 5 November 2025)

[edit]

i’d like to start making pages for prominent kurdish politicians, i might need some help here and there. thank you! --Klooperer (talk) 18:31, 5 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, and welcome to Wikipedia. I see you have already gotten started creating Draft:Nozad Saleh Rifaat. Some resources that might help you are:
I noticed that a couple of the sources you used are not accessible any more. Consider using a web archive site to archive any source you use so that it remains available even after the original source is gone. Question from Fizzaajafri (08:53, 7 November 2025)

[edit]

Hi how do I create a page of mine fizzaa jafri I'm a writer on Pakistani dramas and I want to add myself on Wikipedia --Fizzaajafri (talk) 08:53, 7 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia.
What you are proposing to do is write an autobiography. This is strongly discouraged although not forbidden as you may have difficulty with maintaining a neutral point of view due to your conflict of interest in writing an encyclopedia article about yourself. If you insist on doing so, you need to declare your conflict of interest, and write the article as a draft for submission through Articles for creation. Help:Your first article provides information about writing your first article. -- Whpq (talk) 13:26, 8 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you

[edit]

I just wanted to say thanks for reverting the recent attack on my talk page. I also feel like I should note that that particular user (User:ILOVEPRINCEGEORGE2001) may be a sockpuppet of User:ILOVEPRINCEGEORGE2000, who has been recently blocked. I'm nervous on how to respond to this elsewhere, and I've never dealt with this situation before, so I'm telling you here. — Alex26337 (talk) 07:30, 10 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for letting me know. WP:SPI is where you can report sockpuppets. Considering the vandalism, you could also have reported this at WP:AIV and noted the sockpuppetry in the report. I have already blocked them so there is nothing more to do unless they decide to create another sockpuppet. -- Whpq (talk) 07:40, 10 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
